All of our leather journals are handmade by a small family business in Rajasthan, India. They have been expertly crafted using a mixture of contemporary and traditional methods and the pages have been bound by hand so they are strong and perfect for travelling.

The paper used in these journals is handmade using recycled cotton (also known as khadda, kaddi or khaddi) leftover from the massive garment industry in India. It is acid-free because we only use unbleached cotton and it produces a beautiful paper, easy to write, draw or paint on. We don't recommend using a fountain pen with this type of handmade paper.

The leather used is a by-product of the meat industry in India and is tanned using only natural dyes.

Due to the handmade nature of these products colour and designs may slightly vary but loveliness comes as standard.

All the products in this range are made by a small family business in Rajasthan who we have worked with for many years following Fair Trade guidelines. We visit every year and we now know the producers and their families well and consider them true friends. We are proud that together we are able to provide people in rural villages fairly paid work that would have otherwise been difficult to find.

The khadda paper used in the products is handmade using recycled cotton leftover from the massive garment industry in India. The paper is made by a charity in rural Rajasthan that promotes women’s education and their social standing in the rural villages.

We respect our producers and it is very important to us that we treat them fairly. We pay all our producers 50% upfront and send money to them whenever they need it and we never return anything, even if it’s damaged. To incentivise the staff, we have a bonus system in place.

24-Feb-2018 Product:

The Journal really was beautifully made and exceptional quality considering it was genuinely hand made. Produced by people and their families who, if it wasn’t for Paper High, may not have necessarily been able to find paid employment. This is the second one I have purchased and would highly recommend it. Thanks for recommending us - It is lovely to hear from people who appreciate our ethos as it is very important to us!
