Made from the discarded offcuts of the massive garment industry in India by an NGO devoted to promoting wasteland development, women's empowerment in rural areas and the fair treatment of its artisans, these rugs represent a new way to create sustainable products that not only look good, but do good too.
We recommend that they are hand washed in a cool wash. As these rugs have been made with recycled bits of rags we cannot guarantee that they are colour fast.
Due to the nature of this product colours may vary.
Our rugs and bell totas are handmade by the Barefoot College, an inspirational non-government organisation making a great difference to communities in Rajasthan, India.
Since 1972 the Barefoot College has been providing basic services and solutions to problems in rural communities, with the objective of making them self-sufficient and sustainable. These 'Barefoot solutions' can be broadly categorised into solar energy, water, education, health care, rural handicrafts, people's action, communication, women's empowerment and wasteland development. We have seen for ourselves the incredible work the college is doing and are truly inspired by it.
The products themselves are made from rags left over from the garment industry.
You can buy these products safe in the knowledge that you are directly helping the people who have made them.
