All of our leather journals are handmade by a small family business in Rajasthan, India. They have been expertly crafted using a mixture of contemporary and traditional methods and the pages have been bound by hand so they are strong and perfect for traveling.
The paper used in these journals is handmade using recycled cotton (also known as khadda, kaddi or khaddi) leftover from the massive garment industry in India. It is acid-free because we only use unbleached cotton and it produces a beautiful paper, easy to write, draw or paint on. We don't recommend using fountain pen with this type of handmade paper.
The leather used is a by-product of the meat industry in India and is tanned using only natural dyes.

We visit every year and we now know the producers and their families well and consider them true friends. We are proud that together we are able to provide people in rural villages fairly paid work that would have otherwise been difficult to find.

We respect our producers and it is very important to us that we treat them fairly. We pay all our producers 50% upfront and send money to them whenever they need it and we never return anything, even if it’s damaged. To incentivise the staff, we have a bonus system in place.
