Availability: In stock

Our beautiful Fair Trade embossed leather-bound journals make for a great diary, travel journal, inspiration book or simple notebook.

The leather covers age really well so they are happy to take a few knocks!

Each journal is handmade and contains 125 pages of unlined khadda paper. Khadda paper is made from recycled cotton, is acid-free and is a beautiful paper to write or draw on.

The embossing on the covers has been done with small individual handmade tools making each journal unique.

All of our leather journals are handmade by a small family business in Rajasthan, India. They have been expertly crafted using a mixture of contemporary and traditional methods and the pages have been bound by hand so they are strong and perfect for travelling.

The paper used in these journals is handmade using recycled cotton (also known as khadda, kaddi or khaddi) leftover from the massive garment industry in India. It is acid-free because we only use unbleached cotton and it produces a beautiful paper, easy to write, draw or paint on. We don't recommend using a fountain pen with this type of handmade paper.

The leather used is a by-product of the meat industry in India and is tanned using only natural dyes.

The embossed pattern might not be the same as on the image but will be just as lovely and carefully made.

Due to the handmade nature of these products colour and designs may slightly vary but loveliness comes as standard.

All the products in this range are made by a small family business in Rajasthan who we have worked with for many years following Fair Trade guidelines. We visit every year and we now know the producers and their families well and consider them true friends. We are proud that together we are able to provide people in rural villages fairly paid work that would have otherwise been difficult to find.

The khadda paper used in the products is handmade using recycled cotton leftover from the massive garment industry in India. The paper is made by a charity in rural Rajasthan that promotes women’s education and their social standing in the rural villages.

The leather used for the covers is a byproduct of the meat industry and is tanned using natural dyes.

We respect our producers and it is very important to us that we treat them fairly. We pay all our producers 50% upfront and send money to them whenever they need it and we never return anything, even if it’s damaged. To incentivise the staff, we have a bonus system in place.

Love the paper and leather cover material, thick and gives me some kind of "ancient feeling" when touching them. Said it was a gift so I couldn't write on it. Probably get one for myself sooner or later. We agree that both the leather and paper used in these journals do feel great and so strong when you handle them, it really gives you a feel for the quality of the materials used and the great artistry that's gone into them. I love that you say it gives you an 'ancient feeling' when touching the... Read More.
