Our rustic yet stylish historical Fleur de Lis design leather journals are handmade by a small family business in Rajasthan, India. They have been expertly crafted using a mixture of contemporary and traditional methods and the pages have been bound by hand so they are strong and perfect for traveling.
Each journal is handmade and contains approximately 125 pages of unlined khadda paper. Khadda paper is made from recycled cotton, is acid-free and is a beautiful paper to write or draw on. The paper is very easy to write on but does have a slight texture. We do not recommend using ink or fountain pens with this type of handmade paper; ball point or gel pen will work the best.
The embossing on these journals has been done with love, care and individual small handmade tools, making each journal unique. Due to the handmade nature of this leather journal, the small details of the embossed pattern might not be the same as on the image but the 'Fleur de Lis' element of the design will be the same as shown. The leather has been tanned by our suppliers using a natural dye and then put together using a mixture of love, contemporary and traditional skills.
The paper used in these journals is handmade using recycled cotton (also known as khadda, kaddi or khaddi) leftover from the massive garment industry. The leather used is a by-product of the food industry in India.

We are fortunate enough to visit them every year, having worked with them for many years following Fair Trade guidelines. We are incredibly proud that together we are able to provide people in rural villages fairly paid work that may have otherwise been difficult to find, and consider the producers and their families true friends.
The paper in all our journals and photo albums is made by a charity in rural Rajasthan that promotes women’s education and their social standing in the rural villages. For more information about the sustainable materials used, take a look at the product description.

Great booklet, not finished in a 100% super clean pristine manner but that is a little bit down to the handmade nature of it place of origin. Look on it as character and not a flaw and it becomes better and more individual
