All of our leather journals are handmade by a small family business in Rajasthan, India. They have been expertly crafted using a mixture of contemporary and traditional methods and the pages have been bound by hand so they are strong and perfect for travelling.

Each journal is handmade and contains approximately 125 pages of unlined khadda paper. Khadda paper is made from recycled cotton, is acid-free and is a beautiful paper to write or draw on. The paper is very easy to write on but does have a slight texture. We do not recommend using ink or fountain pens with this type of handmade paper; ballpoint or gel pen will work the best.

The embossing on these journals has been done with love, care and individual small handmade tools, making each journal unique. Due to the handmade nature of this leather journal, the small details of the embossed pattern might not be the same as on the image but the 'Celtic Knot' element of the design will be the same as shown. The leather has been tanned by our suppliers using a natural dye and the put together using a mixture of love, contemporary and traditional skills.

We are a Fair Trade company and regularly visit our suppliers to ensure the highest standards are met. We quality control all our products to ensure that you only receive the best products.

Fair Trade leatherBy buying this product you will be supporting the work of skilled artisans and craftspeople in Rajasthan, India.

All the products in this range are made by a small family business in Rajasthan who we have worked with for many years following Fair Trade guidelines. We visit every year and we now know the producers and their families well and consider them true friends. We are proud that together we are able to provide people in rural villages fairly paid work that would have otherwise been difficult to find.

The khadda paper used in the products is handmade using recycled cotton leftover from the massive garment industry in India. The paper is made by a charity in rural Rajasthan that promotes women’s education and their social standing in the rural villages.

The leather used for the covers is a byproduct of the meat industry and is tanned using natural dyes.

We respect our producers and it is very important to us that we treat them fairly. We pay all our producers 50% upfront and send money to them whenever they need it and we never return anything, even if it’s damaged. To incentivise the staff, we have a bonus system in place.
