All of our leather journals are handmade by a small family business in Rajasthan, India. They have been expertly crafted using a mixture of contemporary and traditional methods and the pages have been bound by hand so they are strong and perfect for travelling.
The paper used in these journals is handmade using recycled cotton (also known as khadda, kaddi or khaddi) leftover from the massive garment industry in India. It is acid-free because we only use unbleached cotton and it produces a beautiful paper, easy to write, draw or paint on. We don't recommend using a fountain pen with this type of handmade paper.
The leather used is a by-product of the meat industry in India and is tanned using only natural dyes.
The embossed pattern might not be the same as on the image but will be just as lovely and carefully made.

All the products in this range are made by a small family business in Rajasthan who we have worked with for many years following Fair Trade guidelines. We visit every year and we now know the producers and their families well and consider them true friends. We are proud that together we are able to provide people in rural villages fairly paid work that would have otherwise been difficult to find.
The khadda paper used in the products is handmade using recycled cotton leftover from the massive garment industry in India. The paper is made by a charity in rural Rajasthan that promotes women’s education and their social standing in the rural villages.
The leather used for the covers is a byproduct of the meat industry and is tanned using natural dyes.
We respect our producers and it is very important to us that we treat them fairly. We pay all our producers 50% upfront and send money to them whenever they need it and we never return anything, even if it’s damaged. To incentivise the staff, we have a bonus system in place.

You can pay less; but who would want to rob the craftsmen of their fair reward when they could easily afford what the journal is worth? Ours is being lovingly transformed into a memory book by my daughter, who is putting holiday tickets, menus, photos and other ephemera of her relationship into it, so she can give it as a present to her partner. Not a scrap book! Each page will have artwork and/or collage backgrounds, and the beautiful paper and embossed leather cover adorned with a cabochon will emphasise the value that is put on these memories and on the relationship. |
