We’re loving the whimsical wedding trend popular this year as the soon-to-be-wed opt for more eco-friendly nuptials, inspired by earthy palettes and natural décor. If you follow us on Pinterest, you might’ve seen our Woodland Wedding Décor Ideas board, filled with ideas on how to make your day as beautiful and planet-friendly as possible. While weddings can be costly and often produce a lot of waste, you don’t need to spend a lot to cut down on your environmental impact. Here are a few of our top tips for wedding table decorations that can be reused, recycled, or regifted after the big day.
Reusable placeholders
Placeholders are great keepsakes for your guests, but rather than giving them something that could be thrown away or forgotten about, why not make them something useful? Our mini hanging photo frames are the perfect size for a placeholder and can be used again and again as either a decorative frame or a more personal Christmas tree decoration.
Cut scraps of patterns from old magazines or gift wrap and write each guest’s name over each one in a complimentary coloured pen, then pop them inside the frame. Thoughtfully personal for the day, then theirs to love and get more use out of after the event.
Our folding or hanging glass frames can be used in a similar way to display table numbers or seating plans. Or why not save on paper and use one for each table to display your menus? You could even skip the paper all together and paint the menu on a clear glass bottle like this one that can be reused or recycled once the party’s over.
Eco-friendly centrepieces
If you can source more glass bottles (save them up through the year – you’re sure to have a few from your engagement party and the hen and stags!) they can make beautiful vases for your centrepieces. Remove the labels and fill them with LED lights, candles, or flowers to make a stunning display. Create levels to the piece by surrounding them with tea light holders (like our best-selling recycled glass ones).
A great eco-friendly and reusable centrepiece option becoming popular in recent years is potted plants. They’re budget friendly, and they can be taken home or replanted after use to save the memory of your special day in your own garden. Terrariums can be used similarly, filled with succulents, moss, or tropical plants. The beauty of terrariums is that they look just as good filled with candles or tea lights too.
Reuse décor throughout the day
If you’re a sucker for soft candle lighting, lanterns are a great way to bring some atmospheric charm. Not only do they look gorgeous, they can also be reused throughout the day, lighting the aisle during the ceremony and being used for the centrepieces or reception venue decorations in the evening.
The great thing about all these decorations is that they can be gifted or taken home after the big day to get the most out of them for years to come. While your wedding day is sure to be a special one, it’ll save you money and cut down your environmental impact to be thoughtful and ensure the décor you choose can be used and enjoyed for more than just one day.
