GPI - GET PAPER INDUSTRYGet Paper - Proud of being Fair Trade

If you like buying fair trade products for gifts then why not wrap it in fair trade gift wrap too?

We were so pleased when we started working with Get Paper Industry in 2009, a handmade paper products cooperative based in Kathmandu Nepal.

Milan, the founder of GPI is such an inspirational man, the passion he has for helping people is amazing, he has that twinkle in his eye and when you see him you know he’s 110% behind the Fair Trade movement.

We loved the ethos behind the running of this cooperative and wanted to support their fantastic work. The idea behind the project is to provide employment opportunities to women and other marginalised members of the community that may otherwise encounter problems with finding work. Another incredible aspect of the cooperative is that 4% of their total turnover goes to the General Welfare Prathisthan (GWP). This is a project that funds scholarships for girls in the community, who may otherwise face discrimination in trying to obtain basic education. The project also builds and renovates primary schools.

We were so inspired by the amazing work that goes on that Paper High also provides six girls with scholarships for a local school in this area. In addition to this, the project has an AIDS awareness program to perform various awareness activities in Nepal to further the message about the disease.

The Get Paper Industry cooperative also has the same eco-friendly policies as we do at Paper High. Like a lot of our products, all the Get Paper products are hand made from waste materials like cotton rags, waste paper and agricultural waste, so it's good to know that everything is sourced in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly way.

The methods of producing their beautiful and eye-catching gift wrap are simple- even using the sunlight to dry the paper! How many companies can say the same about their gift wrap? It’s small details like this that make the Get Paper Industry a far worthier choice to the usual bleached, mass-produced run-of-the-mill paper.

All of this work hasn’t gone unnoticed either, as the cooperative has an impressive string of awards, ranging from the Award for Business Excellence in Response to HIV/AIDS to Best Industry Award for Environmental Concern. So if you’ve got a special occasion coming up and will be spending time trying to find the perfect gift, then help us support this fantastic work and wrap your present in the perfect gift wrap.
